Award-winning multi-instrumentalist and member of Barenaked Ladies, Kevin Hearn, is partnering with Record Store Day Canada on an exclusive EP release in support of MusiCounts, Canada’s leading music education charity. All proceeds raised from the sale of Kevin Hearn and Friends Present: The Superhero Suite will help MusiCounts put instruments into schools and communities across Canada. The special edition 12 inch EP on 180g clear vinyl is available April 13, 2019 at participating record stores listed here. Record Store Day, the global celebration of the culture of the record store, takes place annually in April.

“Thank you to Kevin Hearn and Record Store Day Canada for donating proceeds from the amazing The Superhero Suite to MusiCounts,” said Kristy Fletcher, Executive Director, MusiCounts. “With funds raised through this initiative MusiCounts will provide instrument grants to schools in need, and more kids across Canada will experience the transformational benefits of music.”

“This project was a fun and epic way to make music with friends, all in the name of a good cause. Music is a beautiful, universal language that can change lives. It’s powerful and healing. Every child should have the opportunity to explore, learn, and make music,” added Kevin Hearn.

MusiCounts believes music adds possibilities for youth and focuses on improving access to music education by offering instrument grants to schools and communities across Canada. A school that had previously received one such instrument grant from MusiCounts, was the setting for The Superhero Suite promo video for the release voiced by Kiefer Sutherland and featuring some of Canada’s diverse talent, including Barenaked Ladies all performing the “Batman” theme.

review:

Kevin Hearn’s newest musical offering brings together myriad musical collaborators to present music from superhero books and films. The Persuasions deliver a stirring a cappella performance of the Beach Boys classic, Heroes and Villains. Other highlights include Waiting For a Superman (Rheostatics), Can You Read My Mind (Mary Margaret O’Hara), Transformers (Ron Sexsmith) and Batman (Violent Femmes, Barenaked Ladies and Colin Hay). Kevin Hearn’s fingerprints are all over this one. He is the creative glue that binds it all together into a seamless fifteen-minute suite.
